CURE International reaches Athens...
Mambo! or 'hello' in Swahili--perhaps the way you would be greeted at the CURE hospital in Kenya. Or Salaam, in Arabic, the way you might be greeted at the CURE hospital in Afghanistan. Here in Athens, GA--the base of CURE at UGA--a simple hey y’all will usually suffice for 'hello'. The wonderful thing about CURE International is that no matter where you find it, the central theme of Christ stays the same. CURE at UGA is an organization on campus dedicated to raising money and awareness for children in third world countries who suffer from curable diseases and can not afford what is often life-saving surgery. Our mission at The University of Georgia is to be a part of something bigger than ourselves;  it is to be part of spreading the Good News and hope that comes with knowing Christ by tangibly helping to heal children at CURE hospitals around the world both physically and spiritually. All over the world people are hearing about Jesus because of the physical healing that is taking place, opening the door for the Gospel to take root.

CURE at UGA is part of CURE International’s University program. CURE International is a Christian medical nonprofit with a mission to provide 100% physical and 100% spiritual healing to children, mothers, and the communities they belong to. There are 14 CURE hospitals all over the world providing surgeries that could not otherwise be afforded. Many of these include correcting deformities (i.e., club foot, spina bifida, hydrocephalus) that are fixed with a simple surgery in the United States. But due to the lack of resources in these third world countries, many children suffer from the pain, social stigmas and difficulties that come with having these deformities. CURE at UGA was started in Fall of 2010 by Katie Rae Spell and over $8000 has been raised for these children’s surgeries.

Every CURE hospital has a goal of being totally managed by members of the native population. I have had the humbling opportunity to visit the hospitals in Uganda and Zambia. The difference that these hospitals are making in each community is awe inspiring. Many of the doctors and spiritual directors are natives of the country, raised amongst the heartache and hardship that comes with life in the third world. The most incredible part of the CURE hospital, however, is the love of Christ inside each and every employee. It's not just the spiritual directors that pray or witness to the mothers and children, but I watched as the neurosurgeons and orthopedic surgeons prayed over every child before making the first cut. As a team the Gospel is shared in word and action.

It has been the most humbling and life-changing opportunity to serve the mission of CURE International by being on the Executive Board at UGA. The growth and continuing spread over this campus in three years' time is a testimony to the Lord’s grace and sovereignty. My hope and prayer is that CURE at UGA will continue to stand apart on this campus because of its foundation in Christ. We are not here to serve ourselves or be a 'charity,' but we rise for the sole purpose of making Christ known and sharing His love!

I hope you consider supporting CURE at UGA by supporting our kids and hospitals both financially and in prayer as we model the team mindset of each CURE hospital: to spread the Kingdom and change lives!

In Christ,
Anna

“What good is it, my brothers, if something says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead” - James 2:14-17

“It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” -Mark 2:17
